Project overview
MRI Agent Proposals helps real estate professionals create, manage and deliver property proposals. As the platform grew, workflows became increasingly complex, creating navigation, usability and consistency issues across the product.
The legacy experience
The existing platform had inconsistent layouts, dense workflows and limited guidance across key proposal tasks.

Examples of the legacy Agent Proposals experience before the redesign.
My approach
I used the Double Diamond to understand the existing experience, define the highest-impact problems, explore and iterate on solutions, and validate the final direction through testing.

Understanding the problem
Agent Proposals had grown into a complex and inconsistent product. Core workflows were difficult to navigate, users needed significant onboarding and support, and the interface no longer scaled well across the platform.
Complexity
The workflows made proposal creation difficult to follow.
Navigation
Fragmented navigation made key tasks harder to find.
UI Issues
Inconsistent UI patterns increased cognitive load.
No Guidance
Limited guidance increased reliance on training and support.
Understanding the existing experience
I combined qualitative research, usability testing, a heuristic audit, competitive analysis and cross-functional workshops to understand where users struggled and identify the highest-impact opportunities for improvement.
Users Interviews
I conducted five semi-structured interviews to uncover workflow challenges, support needs, and friction across proposal creation. The conversations highlighted where users were getting stuck and which parts of the experience required the most assistance.
“The overall experience feels old-fashioned and outdated. It takes more effort than I’d expect to find what I need. If I were investing in a platform like this, I’d probably look at competitors first.”

Baseline Usability Testing
I conducted task-based usability testing with three real estate agents to understand where the existing experience created friction and prevented users from completing core proposal tasks efficiently.
Some of the issues identified are:
Outdated experience
Unclear guidance
Accessibility issues
Hidden search & filters
Persona synthesis
I developed a lightweight persona to capture the needs and behaviours of the primary user groups, helping ensure the redesign supported both experienced agents and users who needed more guidance.
Competitive Analysis
I reviewed three leading real estate proposal platforms to identify industry patterns, usability gaps, and opportunities to improve the MRI Agent Proposals experience.

Cross-Functional Workshop
I facilitated a workshop with Product, Engineering, Sales and Support to align on key problems, connect user pain points with business goals, and prioritise high-impact opportunities for the redesign.

Key Research Insights
Users were unsure where to start The dashboard and navigation did not clearly guide users toward key proposal tasks.
Proposal creation felt too complex Users moved through multiple steps without enough guidance or clear progress.
The experience felt outdated The visual design made the product feel less modern and competitive.
Users relied heavily on training and support The product did not provide enough guidance for users to complete tasks independently.
Inconsistent patterns slowed users down Different layouts, labels and interaction patterns made the platform harder to learn and use
Problem to Solve
How might we simplify proposal creation so real estate professionals can complete key tasks faster, with clearer guidance, more consistent interactions, and less reliance on training and support?
Design Strategy
I translated the research into five principles to guide the redesign and keep decisions focused on simplicity, clarity, efficiency, accessibility and scale.
1. Simplify complexity
Break complex workflows into clear, manageable steps.
2. Guide with clarity
Provide clear direction, throughout key workflows.
3. Improve efficiency
Reduce repetitive tasks and streamline common actions.
4. Design for everyone
Improve accessibility, readability and usability across the experience.
5. Build for scale
Create reusable patterns and a consistent design system that can evolve with the product
Design Solutions
The following examples highlight the highest-impact design decisions across the platform, showing how the redesign simplified workflows, improved clarity, and created a more scalable experience.
Improving onboarding clarity
I redesigned the onboarding entry point with clearer guidance, stronger hierarchy, and more explicit next steps to help users understand how to get started.

Improving testimonial management
I restructured testimonials into scannable cards with clearer hierarchy, visible ratings and direct actions, making content faster to review and manage.
Making completion feedback clear
I introduced visible progress, completion status and success feedback so users could clearly see when setup was complete.
Before
No clear confirmation when setup was complete.
After
Clear completion status, 100% progress and success feedback.
Simplifying property classification
I removed the unnecessary “Step 0 of 1” from the workflow and moved classification into a focused modal with clearer descriptions and direct actions, reducing friction and keeping users in context.
Before
Full-page selection with limited guidance.
After
Focused modal with clearer choices, descriptions and actions.
Turning empty states into guided actions
I created a reusable empty-state pattern with clear messaging, contextual illustrations and primary actions, turning dead ends into guided next steps across the platform.
Before
Search and management controls appeared before users had any content, creating an unclear starting point.
After
A guided empty state introduced a clear primary action and helped first-time users understand how to begin.
Improving form usability
I simplified profile setup by removing competing photo and avatar controls, reorganising the form around a clearer hierarchy, and introducing a single, more focused image-upload pattern.
Before
Photo and avatar controls competed for attention, creating a crowded and confusing setup experience.
After
A simplified image-upload pattern, clearer hierarchy, and more focused form structure made profile setup easier to understand and complete.
Simplifying illustration selection
I redesigned the buyer editor to bring illustration selection directly into the workflow and created a custom illustration set to support the new experience.
Before
Choosing an illustration required opening a second modal, adding extra steps and interrupting the workflow.
After
Illustration choices were integrated into the editor, reducing clicks and making selection faster and easier.
Improving form usability
I reorganised property selection around clearer tabs, filters and selection states, while allowing users to view four property cards even when making selections.
Before
Selecting properties reduced the view to two cards, making comparison harder.
After
Four visible cards, clearer tabs and stronger selection states made comparison and selection easier.
Improving dashboard discoverability
I improved the dashboard by making filters easier to find and giving users flexible ways to browse property data based on the task.
Before
Filters were hidden inside a dropdown, making options harder to discover.
After
A dedicated, collapsible filter panel made controls easier to find without cluttering the dashboard.
Improving campaign scheduling
I redesigned the scheduling experience to make events easier to scan, manage and understand through clearer tabs, contextual actions and more visible event details.
Before
Event actions and details were hidden in menus, making the calendar harder to scan and manage.
After
Clearer event details, contextual actions and improved organisation made scheduling faster and easier to manage.
Building a More Scalable Product Experience
I created reusable interaction, content and component patterns across the platform to improve consistency, reduce cognitive load and make future product development easier to scale.

Building a New Design System
I created a new design system for MRI Agent Proposals, bringing reusable components, layouts, accessibility standards and interaction patterns into one consistent foundation for the product.
Components & interactions
Scalable layouts & templates
Accessibility-first foundations
Documented design guidance

I tested the redesigned workflows with users to validate clarity, usability and consistency before development handoff. The findings informed final refinements, with all identified usability issues addressed in the final design.
Usability Testing
Post-redesign testing showed that:
Key actions were easier to find.
Workflow guidance made next steps clearer.
Forms and modals were easier to scan and complete.
Interactions felt more consistent and predictable.
All usability issues identified during testing were resolved.

Accessibility & Handoff
I embedded accessibility into the final designs through improved contrast, clearer hierarchy, consistent labels, validation states and predictable interaction patterns. Reusable components and behaviours were documented to support a smoother handoff to Engineering.
Impact
Simplified complex proposal workflows across the entire platform.
Improved usability and task clarity through testing and iteration.
Established a new scalable design system for future product development.
Reduced inconsistency across core workflows and interaction patterns.
Received positive stakeholders feedback and approval for development.
